When you encounter the problem of not being able to print to your network printer one of the causes may be due to the printer being offline. This will be evident by going to the Devices and Printers window from the start menu. If your printer is listed under the Printer and Faxes section but is greyed out, then the printer is off line and will not accept documents to print. If you find this situation there are some quick and easy things you can do to resolve the problem. 1. Make sure your network cable is plugged in and you can access the server. 2. Make sure the printer is on and the network cable is plugged in. 3. Find out if you are the only one that sees the printer as offline. 4a. If you are the only one that sees the printer as offline, save your files and restart your system. 4b. If a significant amount of people see the printer as offline, power cycle the printer, save your files and restart your system. 5. Log back into your profile and check to see if the printer is online. 5a. If it is, you are free to resume printing, inform any other user having the same problem to restart their machine. 5b. If it is still offline submit a help desk ticket and use another printer. If no other printer is available contact the network administrator. |
