Restoring a file that got accidentally deleted, overwritten, or otherwise has you saying "oh crap, oh crap, oh crap!" can be done by anyone. Every file that you have access to can be restored without having to ask the the network admin. There are some limits; you can only go back in time so far and at certain time points, this works on flat or individual files only. This will NOT work on databases or files on a virtual machine. If you can't restore the file yourself or are afraid of making things worse contact the network admin for help.
So to restore a previous version of a file follow these steps.
♦In windows explorer locate the file or the original location of the file on the server.
♦Go up one level in the folder tree, making the folder that the target file was in visible.
♦Right-click on the folder of the target file and click properties.
♦At the top of the properties window switch to the Previous Versions tab.
♦There you will see some time options and 3 actions below: Open, Copy and Restore.
-Open-
Opens the folder showing the contents at the point is time you selected. This is probably the safest thing to do, you can navigate the folder and open/copy the file you are looking for.
-Copy-
This opens up a window and allows you to copy the folder and ALL its contents to a location of your choosing.
-Restore-
This will restore...or overwrite the ENTIRE folder and ALL its contents over the original. Only do this if you know every file within the folder had been deleted or damaged.
♦First choose the appropriate time point.
♦Next choose the appropriate action below.
♦Once you have located the target file you are looking to restore don't forget to save it to the current location. Overwriting or deleting the bad file if necessary.
As always if you have any questions don't hesitate to contact the network admin by submitting a helpdesk ticket.
